How does the Focus on Listening app work?

In the following section we are going to explain in detail how the Focus on Listening app works.

In case you do not want to read everything, you can easily maneuver around by using the below table of content:

Downloading the app

You start by downloading the app. Our app is currently only available for Android devices and thus, you’ll be able to find it in the Google Play store.

Once you have downloaded the app, you open it and read through the screenshots for onboarding. These tell you how the app works and what you can do with it.

When you have swiped through the onboarding screens, the last slide will ask you to either sign up, log in or to skip for now. If you already have an account, you can go ahead and log in. If this is your first time using the app, and you just want to see how it works, then just click on “Skip for now”. This will take you to the main part of the app.

The Focus on Listening app has three main screens. The screen to the very right is the Settings screen where you are able to find all settings and account details. The middle screen is the one where you start a new live transcription of a lecture or a conversation. Finally, the screen on the left is the one where you see your previous recordings and transcriptions.

You can see how the Settings screen looks like below:

Log in / Creating an account

You can create an account or log in if you already have an account. If you start using the app on a regular basis, you will need an account.

Subscription plans

Under “Payment” you will be able see which subscription plan you currently have. The Basic plan is free, the Premium plan costs $9.99/month and the Diamond plan costs $24.99/month. You can only use the Basic plan for a total of 15 minutes. The Premium and the Diamond plan gives you 350 and 1000 of transcription minutes per month respectively.

Manage categories

If you go to Options, you will be able to adjust the auto-lock of the screen or edit the categories. When the auto-lock of the screen is set to “Yes”, the screen will not lock after a certain time period without you touching it. If it is set to “No”, the screen will lock if not touched for a certain duration. We recommend setting it to “Yes” as you might not touch the screen for some time when recording during a lecture or otherwise.

If you press the “Manage categories”-button, a screen with all the current categories will pop up. If you are using the app for the first time, you will see a list of default categories: History, Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Art. You can easily add, remove or edit all the categories by pressing the plus/minus sign.

Under General, you have the ability to select if you want to transcribe live or with a delay, edit language settings, refer a friend, add a coupon code or request a free onboarding call.

Language adjustments

The language can be adjusted for both the interface of the app as well as the live-transcription language when you speak. To change the language of the interface, you simply choose another language. Be aware that when you do this the application will automatically shut down and you will have to re-open the app. Once you re-open, the interface language will be shown in the newly selected language.

The transcription language can also be changed by tapping the “Transcription language” button. Here you can change the transcription language into one of the available languages which are currently English, Danish, and Norwegian. This is important as the live transcription will not work if you have chosen the incorrect language while recording and transcribing. The transcription language will always have to be set to the language that is being spoken in the classroom.

Refer a friend

If you go to “Refer a friend”, you will get a unique referral code that you can send to your friends who you believe will find the app handy. Whenever a friend of yours signs up using your code, you will get an additional 30 minutes of free transcription added to your account. Please note that you can only refer a friend if you have already created an account.

Free onboarding call

We offer the ability to get a free onboarding call. Provide us with your phone number and press the request button if you find this helpful:

If you go to section “About”, you can rate our app, read our privacy policy and see which version of the app you currently have installed.

When you click on the “Rate app” button you will be redirected to the Google Play store. We always appreciate your honest feedback.
